December 26th, Lucas turned 2 months old! On the video that our cousins took in Guatemala there is one point where Lucas cried and was not very happy (he stopped after someone picked him up) and it bothered Reagan so much! She almost cried and wanted to know why we couldn’t just go down there and get him. I reminded her that it was in God’s hands and that Lucas would be home with us as soon as possible. We hope not too many more month birthdays pass us by without being able to hold him! Happy 2 months, sweet boy!
Our Best Christmas Present (update on Lucas from our family) December 27, 2006
I hope and pray that you all had a wonderful Christmas just as we did. After we visited both sides of the family we went to see our cousins that just got back from Guatemala. Their son, Nick, is beautiful and such a happy, well adjusted baby. We are so thrilled for them and their family. I must admit our best Christmas present was the pictures and video of our almost 2 month old baby. It was absolutely thrilling to see him and see where he lives. It is called an orphanage, but is more of a baby home. The home is nicer than mine!! I am so thankful for the ladies who care for him and for the owner/director. Lucas seemed happy, healthy, and growing. They had him dressed so well and showed him off to our family. Thanks for joining us on the journey and praying for Lucas!!
We received authorization for DNA testing! December 22, 2006
That may not seem like a big deal, but it is one of the small milestones in the adoption process. Right now all attorneys are having to stand in line at the US Embassy overnight to get a good spot in line. The Embassy will only hear 40 cases (or see 40 people) each day, so the attorneys are either in line all night or hire runners who will stand in line for them. From my research I think that means that we are also entered into Family Court. This step is all administrative similar to our homestudies and the social worker has to interview and write a report stating that they think we should proceed. At this point the DNA sample is taken from birthmom and baby and the birthmom must sign again that she wants to relinquish her parental rights (the 3rd out of 4 times). We are making progress! This was a nice Christmas surprise!!
Let’s Pray him home! December 19, 2006
Many have asked, “Well, when do you get him” or “when is the big day?” There is no good response for that. We are not sure when we will get him (or in the adoption world it is called ‘gotcha day’) or when we will travel. I think my response when asked from now on is going to be ‘Let’s Pray him home’! I know the power of prayer and know that God hears the prayers of the righteous. So, “Let’s pray him home!” family and friends!
Welcome! A Journey of Faith and Trust December 13, 2006

We are so glad that you have chosen to go along this journey with us! We know that this is something that is taking us on a journey of faith and trust. We feel so fortunate to have you supporting us during this time. Our family covets your prayer to keep Lucas safe and well cared for while he is at an orphanage run by an America lady. Please pray that our attorney and documents find favor and go through the courts quickly without any glitches! Pray that our transition from a family of 5 to a family of 6 will be a smooth one and that our Lord will intervene in our finances and we will not have debt from this adoption! We really appreciate all your thoughts, prayers, and questions.
Psalm 10:14, 17-18 (The Message)
But you know all about it— the contempt, the abuse. I dare to believe that the luckless will get lucky someday in you. You won’t let them down: orphans won’t be orphans forever. The victim’s faint pulse picks up; the hearts of the hopeless pump red blood as you put your ear to their lips. Orphans get parents, the homeless get homes.
